Tacky signs
Five to 10 years ago, when the economy was poor, feather flags or banner wind signs became an addition to small business advertising. They lined the city streets en masse, and still do. Since the economy has recovered, are these eyesores necessary?
In many cases they are faded, torn, distractions to drivers. On Lee Boulevard in Lee County, I counted 64 of these ugly signs adding to the visual pollution of our roadsides. They should be eliminated in Lee County and all counties. But I doubt that will happen, since permits are required for placing these signs. Which means the counties would lose that revenue.
So these tacky signs will carry on... lowering the value of our environment.

Homicide cover-up?
It has been over a month, since the double homicide in Estero; yet no information seems to be released to the public, concerning the investigation. What is being concealed from members of the community? The media are normally all over the details of such an incident. Why does there appear to be a gag on information in this case?
If a report has been filed by the sheriff's department, then there should be a public record available. If not, it sounds like a cover-up of some sort. When two people are gunned down, in what appears to be an execution style incident, it is not enough to just tell the public that they are not in danger. Is anyone in the media going to press for the truth?

True hero
Trump's older brother was a pilot for TWA airlines. The Donald once said to him, "How is that different from driving a bus?" Quite a bit, I would say as demonstrated by the passengers and crew of the crippled Southwest Airlines Flight 1380.
Five passengers tired to help their severely injured fellow passenger. The EMT even did CPR all the way down to the ground as the crew were calling brace for an emergency landing.
The female Navy pilot captain is often mistaken for a flight attendant. One passenger said he'd like to meet the pilot that landed the plane. "I put this bird on the ground," she said to him. Indeed she did, assisted by the Air Force co-pilot.
With a dysfunctional White House and Congress, my usual patriotism as a former Air Force nurse was waning. But the passengers and crew of that disabled plane rescued Memorial Day for me.
If Trump can disrespect his own brother, it's no wonder a member of his staff can disrespect a dying Senator. I would salute McCain but never Trump.
It was indeed a Memorial Day in the air to be remembered for commendable courage.
Capt. Alice Mack, former Air Force nurse
Better commissioners
I recently read a mailbag letter praising Cecil (the Energizer Bunny?) Pendergrass' willingness to work for us. The two times I contacted his office concerning various problems, he chastised me for bothering him. In his last email to me he said "call LCSO for issues in your neighborhood, not elected officials".
I don't know about you, but he isn't working for me. After 48 years I have seen many commissioners better than Cecil. Maybe because my community is Pine Manor. Not an area where he would receive much money to fill his campaign fund.
I have yet to see Cecil do anything for my community. I will not support Cecil for any official office.

Dedicated servant
How lucky Lee County is to have such a great commissioner as Cecil Pendergrass. he is 100 percent dedicated to the citizens and residents of this county, working diligently to attend to issues and problems, taking the time to speak with constituents and attend events for communities, neighborhood groups, meetings and more.
His energies are more than the Energizer Bunny Rabbit!
Cecil's commitment, dedication, concern and standing tall for this county is definitely second to none and I will be happy to cast my vote for re-election this fall.
