Canberra teenager charged with assaulting police officer

A teenager is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday, charged with assaulting a police officer after an alleged incident in the early hours of the morning.

Police said officers responded to reports of trespassing on a residential development on Colbung Street and Fairhall Street, in Coombs, about 1.10am Monday.

Officers searching the site allegedly found a 19-year-old Duffy man, who they say attempted to run away.

As they approached the man, he allegedly grabbed an item from the building and hit one of the officers on the shoulder and back.

The teenager has been charged with common assault, obstructing and resisting a public official, trespassing and possession of an offensive weapon with intent.
