Indians minors roundup for May 21: Barnes’ 5-hit day leads Clippers’ offensive explosion

• Brandon Barnes’ five-hit day led a 23-hit onslaught from Triple-A Columbus in a 11-5 victory against visiting Toledo. Nine Clippers recorded multi-hit games, led by Barnes’ 5-for-6 performance with a home run, two doubles and three RBI.

Lonnie Chisenhall went 2-for-2 in three innings of a rehab stint with Columbus (21-21). Eric Haase hit his third home run in the sixth inning.

Sean Brady (1-0) allowed two runs and five hits in five innings to earn his first victory.

Mud Hens starter Ryan Carpenter lasted three innings. The Clippers tagged him for nine runs and 14 hits.

• Double-A Akron was idle. The RubberDucks (24-19) next host Trenton in a doubleheader May 22.

• Myrtle Beach scored five runs in the eighth inning to beat High-A Lynchburg, 8-5. Justin Garcia and Ben Krauth were unable to close out a Hillcats’ victory as Connor Myers’ two-run single scored Myrtle Beach’s game-winning runs.

Lynchburg (22-19) scored five runs in the first inning to take an early lead. The Pelicans held the Hillcats scoreless for the rest of the game.

Mayfield graduate Mitch Longo went 2-for-4 and hit his second home run for the Hillcats.

• Low-A Lake County’s game at Dayton was suspended in the fourth inning by rain. The Captains and Dragons were tied, 2-2.

The game will be continued at 6 p.m. May 22.
