Revise wages: headload workers

Members of Erode District Loadmen Central Association sought the intervention of the district administration in holding talks with lorry owners and revise their wages once in three years.

In their petition, they said that they were involved in loading and unloading LPG cylinders from lorries for the past 47 years for which lorry owners pay them wages.

On April 8, 2015, talks for fixing the wages was held in which it was decided to fix the wage of ₹ 850 for a lorry with capacity of 306 cylinder while wage for a lorry with capacity of 450 cylinder was fixed at ₹1,250.

The revised wages were in force till April 31, 2018. The wage agreement was lapsed two months ago and no talks were held for revising the wages.

They said that increase in cost of essential commodities is affecting them and non-revision of wages is a burden on them.

They urged the district administration to intervene and invite lorry owners for talks so that wages can be revised and implemented for the next three years.
