A newly developed database by the USA TODAY NETWORK—FLORIDA offers an easy way to search and find disciplinary actions handed down to educators from the Department of Education.
The database, titled "Florida's Troubled Teachers," was created by Tallahassee Democrat data journalist Yoonserk Pyun and catalogs the final discipline orders from the DOE over the last 41 years. The final orders of discipline against an educator’s certificate come from the Professional Practices Services after a district and statewide investigation.
In the database, the orders are separated into six categories – formal, informal, settlement, show cause, surrender and waived. It also shows if any coursework was assigned, if an educator was fined and other stipulations.
Users can search by county, educator name or role. They also can download the final order documents.
