‘Abolish the monarchy!’ SNP MP urges UK to get rid of the monarchy day after Royal Wedding
AN SNP MP wants to set up an all-party Parliamentary group to abolish the British monarchy, a day after the nation celebrated the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Royal Wedding.
The SNP MP, Tommy Sheppard, wants to set up a group to discuss abolishing the monarchy but doubts he would find “a single Conservative member” to join the group.
Tommy Sheppard, an SNP MP for Edinburgh East told BBC Sunday Politics: “It is almost impossible to get a discussion going in the House of Commons.
“I would love to form a all-party Parliamentary group on the monarchy.
“I doubt very much that I would find a single Conservative member that would be interested.

His calls to discuss abolishing the monarchy a day after the Royal Wedding in Windsor, when Meghan Markle and Prince Harry married and became Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Emma Dent Coad, a Labour MP for Kensington is also a Republican and said: “I think people are scared to speak out.
“You get the most appalling trolling and that stifles debate.
“As the leader of the Labour party then he could if he wanted.
“For him, it is a personal thing.
“I’m not trying to start a revolution, as I keep saying, I want to start a debate.”
The Republican Annual Convention also took place on Saturday 19 May, the same day as the Royal Wedding.
