Several Poor People's Campaign protestors were arrested by state troopers inside the Capitol Monday while blocking hallways and doorways.

Activists with painted umbrellas and signs also marched in downtown Albany to bring attention to the intersections of systemic racism, poverty and voter suppression.

Monday's demonstrations inside and outside the Capitol are part of a national call for moral revival, and six weeks of nonviolent direct action.

Those involved are calling for a massive overhaul of the nation's voting rights laws, new programs to benefit Americans living in poverty, immediate attention to ecological devastation and measures to curb militarism.

On Monday, May 14, demonstrators blocked the roadway at Washington Avenue and South Swan Street, snarling the evening rush hour traffic in downtown Albany, before gathering at West Capitol Park for a rally.
