Death toll in hooch tragedy in Kanpur and Kanpur dehat districts in Uttar Pradesh, has reached 13.   Over a dozen, who fell critically ill after consuming illicit liquor, are being treated in different hospitals. Five people lost their lives in Roora area in Kanpur Dehat district and six deaths were reported in Sichendi area of the Kanpur district.

A magisterial probe has been ordered into the matter and regional excise inspector has been suspended. The Police have registered two separate FIR in the case. Six persons have been arrested including the main culprit.

Additional Director General of Police, Kanpur zone, Avinash Chandra said, raids are being conducted to nab other accused. He said, teams of excise department are searching shops to seize spurious liquor. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced ex gratia of two lakhs rupees each to the families of those killed.
