Prime Minister Theresa May said in a speech Monday one of the U.K. industrial strategy's stated missions is to use AI to transform the prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of diseases like cancer, diabetes, heart disease and dementia by 2030. The U.K.'s first ambition is to diagnose 50,000 more cases of early stage lung, bowel, prostate and ovarian cancer a year within the next 15 years, which May predicts would translate to 22,000 fewer deaths per year within five years of diagnosis.
May plans to announce specific ambitions in other disease areas over the coming weeks and months.
