A news that someone had planted a bomb under the Ganga Bridge to blow it up in Kaushambi district put the police on their toes round the day on Sunday noon.

As per reports, a fisherman spotted the object in the net that he had spread in the river to catch fish and he fled the scene due to fear while crying. The news flew thick and fast and several villagers reached the scene to see the object. Soon a story started doing rounds that someone had planted a bomb under the bridge to destroy it and this led the villagers to get panicky. The villagers claimed that the suspicious looking electronic device was equipped with GPS/GPRS system.

The news later reached to the city area of the district and later went viral on social media causing the police to come under pressure. Subsequently a police team consisting of Bomb Disposal and Detective Squad and forensic scientists were sent to the spot to investigate the case. The cops cordoned off the area to carry out the operation there and later took out the object. The suspicious object later turned out to be an old metre reader which some had dumped in the river.

Giving details, PRO, DGP Rahul Srivastava said the object was not any device equipped with GPS/GPRS system. “In fact it was an old metre reader which someone had dumped in the river and it later was netted by some fishermen at the bank of the river,” he said. The PRO said the object was taken into possession for forensic test and power corporation officials had been informed of the incident.
