LUCKNOW: UP
Congress president Raj Babbar said on Monday that his party would do anything to keep the
opposition united and added that even party chief Rahul Gandhi has emphasised on this.
Babbar, who was in the city to attend programmes on the 27th death anniversary of former PM Rajiv Gandhi, said Congress cadres have been asked to do everything to defeat the BJP in 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
“Congress president Rahul Gandhi has given clear instructions to the party that BJP has to be defeated in 2019 polls,”
UPCC chief said after garlanding the statue of the late PM near Lohia Path.
Babbar said that Congress cadres have been asked to do everything to defeat BJP in 2019 lok sabha elections. "Rashtriya Adhyaksha Rahul Gandhi ka spastha nirdesh hai ki kisi keemat par 2019 mein BJP ko rokna hai (Congress president Rahul Gandhi has issued clear instructions to stop the BJP in 2019)," Babbar told reporters.
Towards that end, the party is exploring all options to give a robust structure to the mega alliance, he said.
"Congress will leave no stone unturned to unite opposition parties," the UP Congress president said.
Earlier, Babbar had also favoured a re-run of opposition unity in UP while adding that Congress had already done its bit by not fielding a candidate in Kairana and Noorpur.
Meanwhile, observing former PM Rajiv Gandhi's death anniversary as balidaan divas, UP Congress organised a number of programmes. Speaking at a seminar organised on the occasion, Babbar stated that Rajiv Gandhi was a visionary who contributed immensely to country's development even at the cost of his life.
"The present day India is what he had dreamt of decades ago. Congress party is proud to take his legacy of celebrating India's unity in diversity forward. The present day India which is fragmenting because of caste and communal clashes needs his principles more than ever," he said. The
All India Youth Congress organised a blood donation camp to mark the day.
