BJP’s downfall has begun: Raghuveera

‘Anger of Telugus in Karnataka evident’

APCC president N. Raghuveera Reddy on Sunday said the downfall of the BJP had begun, and the lesson the Karnataka electorate had taught was an indication of its fate in the 2019 general elections.

Addressing the media here, Mr. Reddy said though the BJP had won a few seats more than the Congress, the vote percentage clearly showed that the voters preferred the Congress to the BJP.

SC order hailed

He said the “treacherous act” of backstabbing Andhra Pradesh on the bifurcation promises proved costly for the BJP, as it had earned the wrath of the Telugu voters living in several constituencies in Karnataka.

He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah had lost their face owing to their “immoral and unethical practices.” “We all should salute the Supreme Court for its timely intervention, which has paved the way for restoration of democracy in Karnataka,” he said.

Mr. Reddy further said it was unfortunate that the Governor, who should be above politics, had acted like a BJP agent, thus bringing disrepute to the institution.

He also hailed the Congress and JD (S) MLAs for not yielding to the “overtures” of the BJP. The MLAs had been offered hundreds of crores and ministerial berths, but they did not yield, he said.

Mr. Reddy said the setback in the BJP-TDP relationship was temporary, and this was evident when the wife of a Maharashtra Minister was appointed member of the TTD Trust Board. Earlier, hundreds of Congressmen took out a rally hailing the formation of government by Congress and JD(S) in Karnataka.
