20-year-old pillion rider dies in accident

Incident took place near Madiwala police station

A 20-year-old pillion rider was killed while the rider escaped with minor injuries when their motorcycle was hit by a car near Madiwala police station on Sunday evening.

The deceased, Akhil Augustine, was a resident of Electronics City. He was heading to his house after the Sunday mass service at St. Thomas Church in Madiwala, police said.

The police said the accident occurred around 7.45 p.m. when the car was taking a right turn towards the market. Akhil was riding pillion without a helmet while his relative Benixon Thomas was riding the bike. They were heading towards Electronics City.

Their bike brushed against the car. Akhil fell down and his head hit the road. Benixon fell down and sustained minor injuries.

Passers-by shifted Akhil to a private hospital where doctors treated him for clots in his brain. He stopped responding to treatment around 1.30 a.m.

Madiwala police have registered a case of accidental death due to rash and negligent driving, and have booked the car driver. They have seized the car and the bike.

Akhil was a native of Kannur in Kerala. He was living with his mother and younger sister. He had come to Bengaluru to study and had completed his BCA from a city-based college. He was looking for a job.

Bank employee dies

In another incident, a 26-year-old private bank employee was killed when she lost control of her scooter and hit a parked car near Kodava Samaja, Vasanthnagar in the early hours of Monday.

The deceased, Ayesha, was a resident of Palace Guttahalli. She was returning home after meeting a friend, police said. The accident occurred around 2.20 a.m. She sustained grievous injuries, as she was not wearing a helmet. She was rushed to a private hospital where she succumbed to her injuries around 4 a.m., police said. A case has been registered.
