KIRKERSVILLE, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio nursing home where a man killed two employees and the village police chief has reopened a year after the attack.

Tom Rosser is the owner of Pine Kirk Care Center in Kirkersville, about 25 miles (40 kilometers) east of Columbus. He tells the Newark Advocate that residents began moving back in earlier this month.

Renovations to the facility included new flooring, paint and security measures.

Rosser says it took longer than expected because of the emotional toll it took on workers.

Village Police Chief Steven Eric DiSario, nurse Marlina Medrano and nurse's aide Cindy Krantz were killed in the May 2017 attack by Thomas Hartless.

Officials say Medrano had received civil protection orders against Hartless in connection with domestic violence charges. Hartless killed himself after the attack.
