A 18-year-old woman has been arrested in Auckland after illegally altering drivers' licence.

An Auckland teenager has been arrested for illegally altering drivers' licences so students as young as 16 and 17 could get into bars and clubs.

Police said the 18-year-old woman was arrested last week in Auckland.

Acting senior sergeant Lisa Woodward said the woman's deliberate actions put large numbers of young people at potential risk of harm.

"Police would like to remind our community, students especially, that it is a criminal offence to alter an official identification document, and it is also illegal to present a forged document.

"Minors found using altered identification or using someone else's identification are subject to prosecution."

The teen has been charged with fraud related offence and will appear in the Auckland District Court on Tuesday.
