Bombs hurled at PCR Van; Home Guard hurt

In a glaring example of the deteriorating law and order situation in the areas under the Cuttack Sadar police station, a Home Guard was injured and a Police Control Room (PCR) van was damaged as unidentified miscreants hurled bombs at them at Kurunti village in Niali block on Friday night.

The Home Guard identified as Kedarnath Samal sustained head injuries and was rushed to the SCB Medical College Hospital. His condition was stated to be stable.

A police team had rushed to the spot after getting information that some miscreants had hurled bombs at the house of a contractor after he refused to pay them extortion money. The goons had demanded Rs 1 lakh from the contractor at gunpoint. But when he did not pay them, they hurled bombs at his house.

Meanwhile basing on a complaint of the contractor, police detained two suspects for interrogation. The incident has triggered shockwaves in the area. Locals have alleged that due to laxity of police, antisocial elements have spread a reign of terror in the area and that their lives and property are no longer safe.
