MILLERSBURG The host West Holmes High School boys claimed the championship and the Tusky Valley girls were second only to Minerva as the 2018 East District Division II track and field meet concluded at Knights Stadium on Saturday.
Behind a big day from senior Brayden Chaney, who claimed the 200 in 22.51, the 400 in 48.87, and anchored the winning 800 and 1,600 relay teams, West Holmes won the boys title with 113.5 points. River View was second with 98 points, while Claymont was third with 81 and Carrollton took fourth with 73.
Tusky Valley's girls were second with 117 points as Madi DeBos led the way with wins in the 1,600 at 5:22.74, 3,200 at 11:12.52, and the pole vault at 10 feet, 3 inches. Minerva won the title with 123 points, while Indian Valley was third with 87 and River View took fourth with 83.
The top four in each event advanced to the regional at Muskingum University next week.
Michael Taylor, Brady Taylor, Jonathan Kandel ran before Chaney in the 800 relay that posted a winning time of 1:30.41, and Michael Taylor, Kandel, Travett Boughman and Chaney were first in the 1,600 relay at 3:26.06.
River View's Grant Gunn claimed the 100 (11.36) and Black Bear teammate Jordan Washington was second (11.60).
Grant Gunn was second in the 200 (22.85) and Tusky Valley's Justin Merrick took third (23.20) and Carrollton's Calob Dalton was fourth (23.26).
River View's Washington, Grant Gunn, Nick Gunn and D'Angelo Marshall placed second in the 800 relay (1:31.15), and Carrollton's Rigo Viveros, Noah Carrothers, Chase Flanagan and Dalton were third (1:33.23), while Tusky Valley's Brock Haas, Owen Clugston, Brandon Steinbaugh and Justin Merrick finished fourth (1:33.36).
River View's Sawyer Neal won the 3,200 with a 10:10.19 and Claymont's Colvin Hershberger was second (10:22.37), while Carrollton's Daniel Lampe took third (10:36.12).
River View's Andrew Martin, Grant Gunn, Nick Gunn and D'Angelo Marshall finished second in the 400 relay (44.08) and Claymont's Xavier Grant, C.J. Watters, Hunter Hershberger and Devaun Gamble were third (44.45) and Ridgewood's Isiah Lamneck, Xavier Kelley, Jason Stubbs and Blake Craigo were fourth (45.01).
Claymont's Blake Linard added the shot put title to the discus crown he claimed Thursday. Linard won with a 52-7.75, and River View's Kyle McClain was second (48-3). Ridgewood's J.J. Durr placed third (47-11) and West Holmes' Lane Graham was fourth (47-4).
Carrollton's Jose Diaz, Bryce Carte, Flanagan and Dalton claimed the 400 relay title in 44.05.
Carrollton's Daniel Lampe took second in the 1,600 (4:39.22), and River View's Austin Hill was third (4:39.63).
Indian Valley's Zack Love won the 110-meter hurdles in 15.29 and Coshocton's Devin Dickerson was third (16.27) with Claymont's Trey Breehl taking fourth (16.80).
Love also claimed the 300-meter hurdles in 40.49, while West Holmes' Ethan Kinsey was second (41.53) and Carte was third (42.06).
Indian Valley's Hunter Probert won the 800 in 2:00.35, and West Holmes' Jonathan Kandel was second (2:00.76). Harrison Central's Sam McClelland placed third (2:01.03), and River View's Austin Hill took fourth (2:02.33).
Tusky Valley's Justin Merrick was second in the 400 (50.75), and West Holmes' Michael Taylor was third (51.72), while Harrison Central's Eric Leech was fourth (51.86).
Tusky Valley's Brock Haas, Brandon Steinbaugh, Tyler Stump and Justin Merrick were second in the 1,600 relay (3:31.91), and Indian Valley's Zack Love, Matt Love, Adam Lenhoff and Probert were third (3:32.87). Harrison Central's Sam McClelland, Leech, Tyler West and Michael Downs finished fourth (3:35.46).
Harrison Central's West won the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, while West Holmes' Jacob Goudy was second (6-0), and Tusky Valley's Stump was third (5-10).
On the girls side, River View's Kelsey Hartsock claimed the 100 in 12.94, with West Holmes Kaylin Martin third (13.11), and River View's Cassidi Bookless fourth (13.15).
Bookless won the 400 in 1:00.27, with Tusky Valley's Lexie Engstrom third (1:03.81), and Harrison Central's Abbi Kelley took fourth (1:03.82).
River View's Alicia Lonsinger won the 200 in 26.41, and Tusky Valley's Caylin Knous was third (27.09).
Hartsock, Skyler Stewart, Jesse Vandenbark and Lonsinger won the 800 relay in 1:47.47. Tusky Valley's Ashley Kinsey, Jadyn Kuykendall, Macey Hicks and Knous were third (1:51.33), and Indian Valley's Shaylee Shepherd, Kiara Rakestraw, Chloe Colvin and Kitanna Rakestraw were fourth (1:52.65).
Bookless, Hartsock, Stewart and Lonsinger won the 400 relay in 50.82. Tusky Valley's Kinsey, Kuykendall, Kennedy Willis and Knous were third (52.63) and Claymont's Madison Whitmire, Zariah Kennedy, Lydia Cochran and Rylee O'Donahue were fourth (53.03).
Bookless, Kelsey Hartsock, Nicole Bryant and Lonsigner were second in the 1,600 relay (4:12.32), with Indian Valley's Madylin McDaniel, Mikayla Baker, Brittney Roth and Alex Pirano third (4:18.99), and Tusky Valley's Hannah Hostetler, Kennedy Willis, Lexie Engstrom and Kat Gaiser finished fourth (4:24.09).
Indian Valley's Roth was second in the 1,600 (5:27.81), and Sandy Valley's Mercedes Sarver was fourth (5:34.91).
Roth was third in the 3,200 (12:02.79), and Tusky Valley's Kaylyn Lloyd was fourth (12:10.20).
Indian Valley's Elle McDaniel was second in the pole vault (10-0), while Tusky Valley's Emma Potts was third (8-6) and Indian Valley's Brynn Myers took fourth (8-6).
Claymont's Alexis Woods won the 100-meter hurdles in 16.40, and Indian Valley's Madylin McDaniel was fourth (16.70).
Woods' teammate Haylee Heavilin won the 300-meter hurdles in 47.80 and Woods was third (49.28) and Tusky Valley's Ashley Kinsey was fourth (49.89).
West Holmes' Katie Sprang captured the 800 title in 2:19.02, and Tusky Valley's Kat Gaiser was third (2:21.72).
West Holmes' Madison Kandel won the discus with a throw of 128-8, and Harrison Central's Thea Haney was third (113-3).
Sandy Valley's Halie Sciury won the long jump in 17-6, with West Holmes' Kaylin Martin second (16-3.75), Indian Valley's Kitanna Rakestraw third (16-1) and Braves' teammate Shaylee Shepherd fourth (15-4.75).
SALEM DIVISION II
Fairless' Sophie Wentling won the girls 800 and helped the Falcons 1,600 relay unit to a second-place finish at the Division II district track and field meet that concluded Saturday at Salem High School.
Wentling clocked in at 2:18.77 to win the 800 and led off the 1,600 relay, followed by Kennady Gibbins, Emily Cole and Erycka Byer as they finished second (4:10.01).
The top four placers in each event qualified to the regional at Austintown-Fitch next week.
Fairless Ella Pumneo was third in the 3,200 (11:33.48) and Kinsley Anstine was fourth in the 1,600 (5:32.39).
