More traffic cops deployed to tackle Ramzan rush

Additional personnel to regulate late night traffic soon

Gearing up to tackle vehicular rush in Ramzan, the Traffic Police have deployed additional personnel in Old City.

With vehicular movement barred around Charminar on account of the Charminar Pedestrianisation Project, traffic in the Khilwat and Mandi Mir Alam areas has increased, said the traffic cops. This, they explained, is having a cascading effect on other areas.

“We are seeing more vehicles along Hussaini Alam to Khilwat stretch and Darul Shifa to Mandi Mir Alam stretch. There is congestion on these roads. To facilitate smooth movement of vehicles, we have already deployed a platoon. Another 30 traffic personnel are expected to arrive shortly,” said in-charge DCP Traffic–II Babu Rao.

These personnel have been posted from Madina to Gulzar Houz and from the former Charminar Bus Station (CBS) area to Shali Banda. They will also be deployed at specific traffic pressure points at Mandi Mir Alam.

Police said that they are, however, facing problems in controlling the movement of autorickshaws near the CBS area post midnight. The auto drivers have not been parking at the designated spots along Moghalpura road, they said.

“There is parking space for around 25 autos there. Soon, we will have more personnel to regulate traffic even late in the night,” a traffic cop said.
