Kerr Law Firm Workshop

Don’t let yourself be vulnerable after you have been so careful to do the right thing. Sacrifices made to care for others can turn into legal nightmares unless proper planning is in place. Learn how the best of intentions can turn into the nastiest of lawsuits, the danger of oral agreements, and the necessity of proper care agreements. Come learn about simple things you can do to protect yourself while doing the right thing. There will be a free workshop from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, at the Kerr Law Firm located at 205 South Main St. in Mt. Pleasant. Seating is limited. Call 989-773-7071 to reserve a seat.

Shepherd Smorgasbord Dinner

The Shepherd United Methodist Church will hold its family smorgasbord dinner from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The menu includes Swiss steak, baked chicken, mashed potatoes & gravy, biscuits & gravy, baked beans, vegetable, salad, cakes, pies, and beverages.

Ithaca Memorial Day Service

The public is invited to the Memorial Day service at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 28, at the Ithaca VFW Post 7805 and American Legion Post 334. All veterans at the ‘All Wars Memorial’ located at the Gratiot County Courthouse in Ithaca. The Ithaca School Band will play the National Anthem, accompany the veteran groups to the Ithaca and North Star cemeteries. A 21-gun ceremonial firing will occur followed by taps. There will also be a guest speaker.

Memorial Day Services

The American Legion, Varga Post 383, will hold Memorial Day Services on Monday, May 28, at the following locations: St. Henry’s Cemetery at 9:30 a.m., Vernon Township Cemetery at 10:00 a.m., Denver Township Cemetery at 10:30 a.m., Woodland Cemetery (south unit) at 11:00 a.m., Rosebush Memorial Park at 11:30 a.m., Varga Falls Post 383, 3963 E. Denver Rd. at noon. A potluck will follow services at the post. All are welcome to attend all events.

Alma Community Art Center Events

Little Artists with Amanda Sallisbury will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 7. Little artists will create artwork inspired by The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. We’ll create our own dots with paper, paint, and crayons and assemble them into a collage. We will also work together on a collaborative art piece and learn about the color wheel and color mixing. Offered year-round on first Thursdays for ages 5-7. Arty Parties are also available. Call them to arrange a date, a time, and a plan. They do office retreats, fun fundraisers, friend or family get-togethers, birthdays and more for a range of ages. They’ll provide an art instructor and materials, and can host a small party at the Alma Community Art Center, located at 116 W. Superior St., Suite 6 in downtown Alma. Clare FCA Sports Camp

A Clare FCA Sports Camp will be held Monday through Thursday, June 11-14, at Clare High School. This camp for kids ages 4-13, and teaches fundamental skills in baseball/softball, basketball, track/cross country, volleyball, gymnastics, football, cheer, strength training, and soccer. For more information, call 989-386-3232 or come to Clare High School from 5 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 10 to register. Cost is $10 per child before June 11, $12 if registered June 11 or later. St. Louis VFW Buffet Dinner

The St. Louis VFW Post #3055, located at 1295 W. Monroe Road, will host a three-meat dinner buffet from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13. Adults cost $9, children ages 5 to 12 are $4, under 5 eat free. Dinners will be held the second Wednesday of each month.

Fiber Arts Auction

The Mid-Michigan Quilter’s Guild with hold a fiber arts auction at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, at the Isabella County Commission on Aging Building at 2200 South Lincoln Rd. in Mt. Pleasant. Custom made auction items include: wall art, table toppers, place mats, pillows, tote bags and more. Refreshments will be served.

St. Louis Budget Work Session

The St. Louis City Council will hold a budget work session for the 2018/2019 budget at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, May 30, in the St. Louis City Council Chambers (300 N. Mill St. in St. Louis).

Ashley District Library Announcements

The Ashley District Library is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, and from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. It serves Chapin and Marion township in Saginaw County, the Ashley School District, and Gratiot County. Ring the buzzer during school hours. There’s also a 24-hour drop-box in the entry way. There will be an ancestry workshop from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday. Copies are 10 cents each. The library board meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The last Lego Club of the school year is from 3 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 31. Summer hours begin June 11. Hours are from noon to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.

Edmore Historical Center Opens

The Old Fence Rider Historical Center in Edmore is open for the 2018 summer season. It will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Saturday or by calling 989-506-9562 to make special arrangements or for group tours. The OFRHC is a 501-C3 organization and admission is a deeply appreciated donation, which is used to pay the heat, air, water, electric, maintenance expenses, and to keep the doors open.

Free Soup Dinner in Clare

A free soup dinner is held from 4 to 6 p.m. on the last Saturday of every month, at the Clare United Methodist Church (105 E. 7th St. in Clare). The menu includes soup, sandwiches, dessert, coffee, tea, lemonade, and milk. There will be music, too.
