Computer-based Jee-Adv a challenge for students

Over 1.5 lakh students across the country appeared for the first-ever completely computer-based Joint Entrance Examination-Advanced (JEE-Adv) on Sunday and most found the exam very difficult. Experts have anticipated a drop in the overall cut-off as many students were not happy with their performances.

“Most students found the mathematics section difficult compared to physics and chemistry. The paper was definitely tougher than last year,” said Ramesh Batlish, an expert and mentor to several students. “Since this was a completely computer-based paper, students were not given a hard copy of the question paper or their response sheet, This has made them more worried as they can’t even remember their answers to all the questions,” he added.

The exam was divided in two sections — paper I and II. “In paper 1, physics was tough and maths and chemistry were easy. Overall paper 1 was moderately difficult with more weightage from Class 12 syllabus. In paper II, mathematics was found to be tough, while physics and chemistry were easy,” said Udaynath Mishra, another expert and mentor to IIT aspirants.

According to figures shared by the JEE-Adv organising chairman, 1.57 lakh students appeared for paper I and 1.55 lakh appeared for paper II.
