Sweden crushes U.S. in hockey worlds semis

COPENHAGEN, Denmark — Sweden strode into the final of the ice hockey world championship by crushing the U.S. 6-0 on Saturday.

The defending champion set up a gold medal game on Sunday against Switzerland, which stunned favorite Canada, 3-2. The U.S. will play Canada for bronze.

Viktor Arvidsson led Sweden with two goals and Anders Nielsen had 41 saves.

Football: Cowboys receiver Terrance Williams was arrested on a charge of public intoxication after police responded to an accident involving his car striking a light pole and found Williams riding an electric bicycle on a road near his home. ... Tennis: Rafael Nadal was challenged in the first set by Novak Djokovic before pulling away for a 7-6 (4), 6-3 win to reach the Italian Open final. Nadal plays defending champion Alexander Zverev, who recovered from an early break in the second set to beat Marin Cilic 7-6 (13), 6-4. On the women's side, top-ranked Simona Halep rallied past three-time Rome champion Maria Sharapova 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 and will again face Elina Svitolina for the title. Svitolina won 6-4, 6-3 over 26th-ranked Anna Kontaveit.

College baseball: Union's season came to a close with a 10-4 loss to Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday in the Division III NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional in York, Pa. The Dutchmen finished the year 31-13, the most wins ever for the program. Sophomore Colin Kelly, who had a school-record 59 RBIs this season, was 2-for-3.

Cycling: Simon Yates extended his overall lead to 1:24 over defending champion Tom Dumoulin, and Chris Froome edged Yates by six seconds to win the 14th stage of the Giro d'Italia. ... Fernando Gaviria got his third stage win and Egan Bernal of powerhouse Team Sky won the weeklong Tour of California.

Boxing: Gary Russell Jr. successfully defended his WBC featherweight championship, unanimously outpointing mandatory challenger Joseph Diaz.
