A 62-year-old woman from Smyrna is in critical condition after being rescued from a fire Sunday afternoon, according to the State Fire Marshal's Office.

Authorities said the Citizens Hose Company responded to the 500 block of West Commerce Street in Smyrna shortly after 1 pm for a house on fire. Firefighters found an active fire inside the second floor, authorities said.

The woman was rescued and taken to the hospital with inner airway burns and second-degree burns to her face, according to the Fire Marshal's Office. The Office believes she tried to light a cigarette while on oxygen, which caused a fire that ignited her bedding.
