Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s first dance REVEALED: Newlyweds danced to Whitney Houston
THE newlywed Duke and Duchess of Sussex partied until the early hours of Sunday morning following an emotional ceremony at St George's Chapel, Windsor. But emotions continued to run high at the "afterparty" at Frogmore House, as the loved-up couple took to the floor for their first dance and chose a well known song to kick the evening off.
The couple enlisted the help of friend and actor Idris Elba to spin a DJ set, which was said to have a focus on livelier tunes than the traditional slower choice for first dances.
The music on offer had a distinctly soul-tinged flavour working from 1960s soul classics through to dance hits of the 80s.
But the big number was the first dance, with Prince Harry and Meghan Markl choosing 80s Whitney Houston classic I Wanna Dance With Somebody.
As well as uplifting party music and bespoke cocktails at the festival themed evening celebration, guests were also treated to a fireworks display, as well as a sit-down dinner for 200 guests.
Guests included George and Amal Clooney, Tom Hardy and family members Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice.
Argentinian polo player Nacho Figueras, tennis champion Serena Williams and Indian Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra were also in attendance.
Guests erupted into cheers when Prince Harry referred to Meghan as his wife for the first time, before delivering a funny "off-the-cuff" speech.
And the crowds were nearly moved to tears by Harry describing his new bride as having "navigated everything with such grace", before reportedly adding: "We make such a great team. I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you"
Guests at the afternoon reception were moved to tears as Prince Charles delivered an emotional speech just hours after he walked Meghan down the aisle, stepping in for Meghan's father Thomas Markle who could not make it to the UK following health implications.
Guests are said to have left the evening party at around 2am, with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex spending their first night of married life at Windsor Castle.
The newlyweds travelled home to Nottingham Cottage, Kensington Palace, this afternoon to fulfill their royal duties before they go on their honeymoon.
