Shut it down everyone, Billy Idol had the best tweet about the Royal Wedding

You'd think if anyone had an obvious Royal Wedding joke lined up and ready to go, it'd be Billy "White Wedding" Idol.
Turns out what Idol had in mind was even better.

Like seemingly everyone else on Twitter, Idol logged on yesterday to share his thoughts about Harry and Meghan's nuptials.
But what he didn't say was even more noticeable than what he did.
Looks like a lovely day in UK for Harry and Meghan’s wedding #royalwedding

Yup, the dude went with "lovely day" instead of "nice day," "Harry and Meghan's wedding" instead of "a white wedding." It's so close to his famous lyric, but not quite, and that not-quite-ness drove Twitter absolutely nuts.

Not to criticize your work, Billy, but I don’t think that’s quite how the song went. 🤔 pic.twitter.com/HTf1Uj8I9e

I feel like this a missed opportunity for that ONE REFERENCE but, you can redo the tweet cos it’s a nice day to start again 🤘🏾🙌🏾

Not everyone was mad at Idol, though. A few people respected the game he was playing.
unpopular take: he played this exactly right. no way half my twitter feed would be talking about billy idol if he didn't withhold this just right https://t.co/yV6jKJH95Y

Billy Idol refusing to say the line is actually a pretty deep game. https://t.co/moBqLUmezT

Idol did eventually "cave" to pressure and give the people what they wanted. But only after a good 10 hours of making people beg him to say the line.
So it looked like ‘It was a nice day for a white wedding’ in the UK for Meghan and Harry #RoyalWedding2018 ;)

And that, folks, is how you steal the spotlight on a prince's wedding day.
