Mumbai cops arrest drug peddler for possession of 5.5kg cannabis

The estimated cost of the contraband was ₹55,000

The Khar police have arrested a 26-year-old Dhule resident for allegedly possessing around 5.5 kgs of cannabis (Ganja) worth ₹55,000 on Saturday. Police are probing further to find out from where the accused, Suresh Koli, brought the drugs.

Senior police inspector Ramchandra Jadhav, from Khar police station said, “The accused hails from Dhule. We are trying to find out where did he buy the drugs from and whom was he was going to sell the contraband.”

Koli was arrested after the police had received a tip off about drugs peddlers operating in their jurisdiction. Acting on the information, officers from Khar police’s detection team laid a trap to nab the accused from Shirley Rajan road in Pali Hill area.

Around 1.30pm the Koli arrived at the location. The police officers were already present at the location in civil clothes. On frisking him, they found the banned drugs in his possession. The contraband was seized and Koli was placed under arrest, deputy commissioner of police, zone 9, Paramjit Singh Dahiya informed.

The police have ascertained that Koli had come to sell drugs to high-profile customers in the Bandra-Khar belt.

“The accused was produced before a magistrate court and has been remanded to police custody,” Jadhav said.

The police are also checking if the accused has been arrested earlier in any other drug peddling case.
