The Dover Tornado Club, in collaboration with the Dover High School Athletic Department, is now accepting nominations for the DHS Athletic Hall of Fame.

In an effort to recognize those who have made significant contributions in furthering the proud athletic heritage and tradition of DHS, nominations will be accepted in several categories.

* DHS graduates for their athletic achievements while a student at DHS and/or athletic achievements/accomplishments after graduation from DHS (i.e. collegiate, professional, etc.)

* DHS alumni who coached at the high school, college, or professional level

* DHS coaches who may or may not be alumni of Dover Schools

* Contributors to the athletic programs of Dover High School, whether alumni or not.

Recommendation forms are available in the Dover High School Athletic Office, as well as on the district website. Anyone can be recommended for Hall of Fame consideration by the general public, based on the eligibility criteria outlined above. Recommendations will result in a candidate’s referral to the Nomination Committee and then to the final Selection Committee. Nomination forms are available online under “District News” at www.dovertornadoes.com, or can be picked up in the DHS Athletic office. Forms should be returned by June 8, 2018, to the DHS Athletic Office, Attn: Tim McCrate, 520 N. Walnut St., Dover, Ohio 44622.

The Hall of Fame recognition banquet will be held annually in connection with the DHS Homecoming Weekend. This year’s banquet will be at Union Country Club on Thursday, Oct. 4.

The original class, inducted in 2010, will be recognized again at this year’s program. Members of that class were: Ernie Godfrey (1911), Howard “Red” Maurer (1926), Herman “Bup” Rearick (1927), Dwight “Ike” Trubey (1928), Raymond “Sucker” Low (1930), Trevor Rees (1932), Frank “Doc” Kelker (1934), Albert Zuchegno (1937), and Ray Mears (1944).

This revitalization of the DHS Athletic Hall of Fame is being led by Dover athletic directors Jim Heller (1980-1993), Kevin Keffer (1993-1998; 2005-2015), and Tim McCrate (2015-present).
