Katie Sweitzer, a graduate of Dover High, spent the last few months working in New York City. Here are a few thoughts on life in the big city.
How did you end up in New York City? I accepted an internship with the TODAY Show in New York City, and I began living there at the end of December 2017.
What’s the single coolest thing about living there? I think the coolest thing about living in New York City is its sense of awe and busyness. I truly feel like when I am in New York, I can accomplish anything. It is definitely a place for hard workers with big dreams.
Is there one thing that made you think 1. I want to live there forever or 2. I can’t wait to leave? There was definitely not one thing that made me think either of those things. If an opportunity arises for me to live in New York City after I graduate college, I would love to go back.
Describe a typical day while you were there: I worked 40 hours a week at the TODAY Show, so, my typical day would begin between 4-7 a.m., depending on which shift I was assigned that day. Being on the TODAY Show plaza interacting with fans was my definitely one of my favorite experiences.
Is there one thing you haven’t been able to do that’s on your “must do while in New York City” list? I still have not walked across the Brooklyn Bridge, but I am hopeful I will be able to do so in the near future.
What’s next for you? At the end of August, I will move to Los Angeles, California to finish my last semester of college with the OU in LA program with Ohio University. I could not be more thrilled or blessed to have these opportunities, and for the support my parents have given me.
