Drive to verify names of voters begins

Booth-level officers to go door to door

Based on an Election Commission direction, house-to-house verification of existing voters will be completed by booth-level officers by June 20.

This will be part of pre-revision activities, and during the door-step verification, the BLOs will verify a set of particulars of existing electors, V. Candavelou, Chief Electoral Officer, said.

The BLOs have been asked to evaluate eligibility for inclusion from left out electors (eligible on January 1, 2018) and inclusion from prospective electors (eligible on January 1, 2019).

BLOs would examine eligibility under Form GA from overseas electors for inclusion, Form 7 for deletion of dead electors received from their relatives, permanently shifted electors objections for inclusion and multiple entries and Form 8 from the electors requesting correction in their entries, other than the address.

Besides correction in address, BLOs will collect separate Form 8 from electors having old 16 digit EPIC Number for conversion to new 10 digit EPIC number.

They will collect information of the type of disability in case of persons with disability to provide better and improved facilities to them and verify demographically similar entries electors to weed out multiple entries.

The CEO has appealed to the public to cooperate with the BLOs during the house-to-house visit.
