MYH docs on strike after pregnant woman’s kin assault jr doctor


Indore : The relatives of a patient beat a junior doctor of Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital in the hospital’s gynecology department on Friday evening following which the enraged junior doctors struck work on Saturday as mark of protest. They protested against rising violent clashes between patient’s relatives and doctors.

Junior Doctors’ Association has asked hospital administration to become the party in the matter and asked it to lodge a police complaint from their side against the accused kin.

Junior doctor Dr Avinash Patwari said family members of patient Sona, wife of Tushar, manhandled Dr Abhishek Shrivastava when he stopped them from entering gynecology ward. A man and three women attacked the doctor and injured him.


According to information, Dr Shrivastava had requested one of the male family members of the patient to go out of the room as he was checking the heart rate of babies of other pregnant women. “He had asked the family members to move out as other patients were not comfortable in his presence after which he started arguing and later attacked on the doctor. His three women relatives also joined in thrashing,” Patwari said.

On the other hand, family members of the patient said junior doctors thrashed them in the hospital following the argument.

City BJP president Kailash Sharma and party leader Jyoti Upadhyaya reached the hospital on Saturday to support patient’s family members and pressurised the CMO to avoid taking action against the family members. The patient was discharged from the hospital under ‘leave against medical advice.’

Enraged that FIR was not lodged against the accused, junior doctors struck work on Saturday noon and met superintendent Dr VS Pal and dean Dr Sharad Thora. When contacted, Dr Pal said, “JDA has assured us to call off the strike soon.”
