VIJAYAWADA: The ruling Telugu Desam and the Andhra Pradesh Congress welcomed the defeat of the BJP in Karnataka. The parties termed the resignation of Karnataka’s BJP chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, ahead of the floor test on Saturday, a victory of the people and judiciary.
Telugu Desam supremo and chief minister Chandrababu Naidu said that the resignation of Yeddyurappa was the fulfilment of the peoples’ verdict against the BJP. “People are happy because the BJP’s claims to form the government were defeated. They (BJP) have promised so much for Andhra Pradesh at the time of elections. But after four years they have betrayed the people. This is what people will teach when the parties fail to fulfil the promises,” Chandrababu Naidu asserted.

“As a chief minister and as someone who believes in democracy, I am welcoming this. Everyone in the country will be happy about this development. Prime Minister and BJP national president have tried to deride the democracy. What message Prime Minister and BJP president combine has given to the nation by encouraging the corrupt? What is the message they are giving to the youth? Prime Minister said he will be honest, will bring back black money from Swiss banks and abroad. But, BJP bribed upto Rs.10,000 for each vote in the Karnataka elections. BJP brought back Gali Janardhan Reddy who looted the mineral wealth in the country to the forefront and did politics, gave them seats. On the lines of Tamil Nadu, they tried to repeat in Karnataka too by misusing the institution of governor,” Chandrababu Naidu said.

AP Congress chief Raghuveera Reddy said that “democracy had won over the conspiracy.” He further said that the BJP’s backdoor attempts to form the government and the misuse of Raj Bhavan were thwarted. “Congress stood like a rock against the bulldozing of the BJP only to grab power misusing every democratic institution including Raj Bhavan. Finally, we have won. It is the peoples’ victory,” Raghuveera said.

CPI national secretary K Narayana said that it was the victory of the people and judiciary against the BJP’s attempts to destroy the democratic institution. “BJP tried to misuse its power, ignoring the Constitution and the accepted Parliamentary practices,” he alleged and thanked the people for standing firm against the BJP’s power politics.
