Mumbai: In order to provide smooth travelling to the commuters on the central line, soon the Central Railway is developing a mobile application ‘Where is My Train’ on which passengers can track timings of local trains along with estimated time of arrival. A senior railway official said the process of tender application will be done by next month. “This move of developing mobile applications for commuters was in their agenda. We were waiting for approval, but now we have got an official approval we will begin with the tendering process,” added official.
This app will not only track the timings but also will share a live location of the trains along with the estimated time of arrival. “In order to facilitate live tracking, a Global Positioning System (GPS) device will be placed in all local trains. In addition, the application will also inform commuters of delays and disruptions in the train services,” said CR official. He added that this mobile application will soon be introduced on both Android and IOS platforms.
A senior official said even the Centre for Railway Information System (CRIS) is working on a software, named as Real Time Information System (RTIS), which will facilitate the sharing of information about the trains in real time. However, the information of the trains on RTIS will be restricted to outstation trains.
Western Railway (WR) has a similar app called Digital Interface of Stations for Help and Amenities (DISHA), which shares updates about trains in three-time slots. This means that commuters can check the status of trains expected in 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or one hour.
