A 65-year-old man has been charged with the murder of 85-year-old Rosina Coleman.
The pensioner was found dead at her home in Romford, east London, on Tuesday morning.
The Metropolitan Police said Paul Prause, 65, of Romford, will appear at Redbridge Magistrates' Court on Monday.
Neighbours described Ms Coleman as "incredible" and someone who was "always happy".
She is believed to have two children and five grandchildren and had lived in the property alone after her husband died a few years ago.
One neighbour, Freda Bridges, said Ms Coleman was a "very nice lady" who still went out with friends.
