Martyred BSF jawan of Giridih

The Border Security Force jawan who was martyred in Jammu and Kashmir during cross-border firing from the Pakistani Rangers on Thursday evening hailed from Giridih.  The jawan, identified as Sita Ram Upadhaya, son of Brij Nandan Upadhaya, belonging to Palganj village of Pirtard block of Giridih district, was hit by a bullet from across the border and was rushed to a military hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, said family members. 

Violating ceasefire, the Pakistani Rangers targeted Indian positions in the RS Pura and Arniya sectors on Thursday-Friday night and shot Upadhyay, who was on duty at the RS Pura border observation post on the International Border.

Brother of the deceased, Sonu Upadhayay, said that in early morning on Friday a telephonic message was given first to Sita Ram Upadhayay's  wife Rashmi Devi informing about her husband's demise. A second call was received by Sonu. Upadhyay's wife said that the cross-firing was going on when she received the call. Sita Ram had come to his native village recently and after 'mundan' ceremony of his sons he left for duty on May 2 after saying he will come back in the month of July.According to reports from Palganj and its surrounding villages, hundreds of villagers came to Upadhyay's house to pay tribute to him.

The deceased is survived by his wife and two sons.

CM Raghubar Das paid tributes to the martyred jawan through a tweet, saying that a fit reply will be given to Pakistan for this cowardly act. He prayed that the Almighty may give strength to the family members of Upadhyay to bear the grief.
