Punjab VB nabs ASI for taking bribe

Chandigarh: Punjab State Vigilance Bureau on Friday nabbed Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) red handed while accepting bribe of Rs 3,000. Spokesperson said that ASI (826/Tarn Taran) Angrej Singh posted at Police Station Sarai Amanat Khan, Tarn Taran, was nabbed red handed on the complaint of Mandeep Singh of Boosey village in Tarn Taran district who had alleged that the accused ASI was demanding Rs 5,000 to help his uncle in a complaint case and the deal was struck at Rs 3000.

Appointment letters given to 15 lecturers

Chandigarh: Striving hard to fill vacant posts in various departments, Punjab Technical Education and Industrial Training Department on Friday handed over appointment letters and allotted stations of choice to 15 newly-appointed lecturers. The Minister in-charge Charanjit Singh Channi exhorted the newly appointed lecturers to adopt students and train them for competitions so that government institutions could yield better results besides enabling students to get dignified jobs in government and industrialist sector.

Punjab lifted 98.21% wheat arrived in mandis

Chandigarh:  Out of the total of 126.47 lakh metric tonnes of wheat arrivals in mandis across Punjab up to May 17, the government agencies have procured 125.88 LMT wheat and private traders have procured 55,279 MT. More than 122.93 LMT wheat procured by government agencies has been lifted from the mandis recording 98.21 percent lifting in the ongoing procurement process.

Affordable housing policy: Applications invited

Chandigarh: Haryana Government has invited applications for grant of licence under Deen Dayal Jan Awas Yojna — Affordable Plotted Housing Policy-2016 in the newly carved out sectors in the Final Development Plan, Faridabad, 2031 AD. Spokesperson said that applications have been invited under the provisions of Haryana Development and Regulation of Urban Area Act 1975 and Rules framed thereunder within a period of 90 days.

Haryana police arrested interstate gangster

Chandigarh: Haryana Police has arrested an interstate gangster Pavitar alias Dhola, carrying a reward of Rs 75,000, alongwith his three associates from Sonipat district. About two dozen cases of murder, attempt to murder and robbery were unearthed with their arrest. Spokesperson said that other three accused have been identified as Abhishek and Vineet — both from Saharanpur, UP and Sanjeev — a native of Champaran district in Bihar. Police have also recovered two country made pistols, live cartridge and looted vehicles from them.

SJVN undertakes cleanliness drive at Malyana

UT bans artificial ripening of fruits

Chandigarh: Chandigarh District Magistrate Ajit Balaji Joshi, exercising the power conferred in him under section 133 of the CrPC, prohibited the use of chemicals for artificial ripening of  fruits as well as the keeping or storing any amount of stock of such artificially ripened fruits, within the jurisdiction of Chandigarh.
