Samaleswari Express derails in Rayagada

The Howrah-Jagdalpur Samaleswari Express derailed on Friday at the Keutaguda station in Rayagada district when the train was on its way to Jagdalpur from Howrah.

The mishap took place at 5.30 pm nearly 20 km from Rayagada town.

Sources said a pair of wheels of the train’s engine got derailed. However, no casualties were reported and all the passengers were stated to be safe.

Reports said the fishplates on the track were found missing which caused the derailment. Following the incident, train services were affected on the route.

“An extra engine was rushed to the spot to get the coaches back to the Singapur Road station. A relief train from Rayagada will go to the site and re-rail the engine,” ECoR sources said.
