Deadpool 2 end credits scene: How ‘the best end credits scene EVER’ came about
DEADPOOL 2 end credits scene has been praised by fans and critics alike as one of the best ever. Writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick reveal how it came about.
WARNING SPOILERS FOR DEADPOOL 2 AHEAD
When the reviews for Deadpool 2 came out, critics teased the mid-credits scene as one of the greatest ever.
To be fair, it was a stroke of meta-comic genius – all at the self-deprecating expense of Ryan Reynolds.
Having fixed Cable’s time travel device Deadpool went back in time to right some wrongs.

Apart from saving members of the X-Force and Vanessa, he travelled back to X-Men Origins: Wolverine to kill his first attempt at being the Merc with a Mouth – in this case the Merc without a Mouth.
Wonderfully this scene managed to fit in some old footage of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine too.
But the cherry on top was the next scene of Reynolds himself reading the Green Lantern script, only for Deadpool to execute him preventing the terrible superhero movie from ever being made.
Now Deadpool 2 writers Reese and Wernick have revealed how that scene came about.
Speaking with CBR, they said: “Long story short, when it came down to it, someone had the idea for the time machine, and we just thought, ‘Oh, that’s just too classic.’
“How meta can it be when Ryan Reynolds is going back in time to stop previous Ryan Reynolds from taking the Green Lantern movie?
“When Ryan had that idea of the Green Lantern bit, because he’s so willing to make fun of himself, we just lost it.
“We thought, that’s the funniest idea ever, and what a great idea to end the movie.”
