BMW 8 Series is a ‘Gentleman’s Racer’ With 530 HP
BMW has shared a new video showcasing its 8 Series Coupe as it undergoes testing.
The upcoming flagship coupe is confirmed to have around 530 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque in the latest video, leaving room for the more powerful M8 to compete with the BMW M5 Competition’s 617-hp figure. The video takes a scenic road trip with the 8 Series and features Markus Flasch, project leader for the BMW 8 Series, along with the car’s head of application chassis, Jos Van As, and Christian Billig who is the head of drivetrain integration.

BMW doesn’t confirm what engine is being used in the 8 Series Coupe, but it’s likely the company’s 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. Whichever engine it is, BMW has paired it with an eight-speed Steptronic transmission that BMW promises will shift faster than before. It also comes equipped with permanent all-wheel drive, although it’s biased towards pushing power towards the rear wheels.
While most of the interior is heavily camouflaged in the video, the German automaker does give us sneak preview of the 8 Series Coupe’s digital instrument cluster.
Expect more details on the BMW 8 Series on June 15, when it’s officially unveiled at Le Mans.
