FRITZ RAY BLOCKHUS

Fritz Ray Blockhus, 72, of Blue Hill Township, Minn., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, May 3, 2018. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 26, at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Princeton, Minn. A time of fellowship with the family will follow.
He is survived by his wife, Constance (Jackson); daughters, Denise (Edward) Ryczek and Adrienne (Brian) Emerson; stepdaughter, Amanda Becherer; stepdaughter-in-law, Olivia Nicholson; sister, Fayline (Eugene) Engrav; four grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and their children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fridtjof and Alta Blockhus; his stepson, Bradley Nicholson; and his granddaughter, Alivia Emerson.
Fritz grew up in Lansing, Iowa, where he lived in town during the school year but helped on his uncle's dairy farm in the summers. He and his first wife, Lois, raised two daughters in Cedar Rapids, where he worked at Colonial Bakery, Nissen Trampoline, Dearborn Brass, Nash Finch and Nissen-Universal. The family were members of Concordia and Gloria Dei Lutheran churches. Fritz moved to Minnesota in 1995, where he met and married his second wife, Connie. Fritz has donated what remains here to the University of Minnesota in the hope that he can help improve the lives of people who, like himself, will live their whole lives with diabetes and its devastating effects.
