Yogi condoles tragic mishap in Champawat

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath condoled the tragic mishap in which 11 pilgrims, most in their teens, were killed and 19 injured in Champawat district of Uttrakhand on Friday morning. 

The incident happened when a speeding dumper rammed into a group of pilgrims from Bareilly, who were walking to Purnagiri temple at Bichai, Tanakpur. The group was walking behind `dolas’ (palanquins) of Purnagiri Devi placed on two tractors, when the dumper mowed them from behind.

While nine pilgrims were killed on the spot, two others succumbed en route to the hospital.

The seriously injured were admitted to a hospital in Khatima while the others were taken to Tanakpur. 

The deceased included Vir Singh (18), Sonu (8), Vishal (17), Ram kumar (16), Deendayal (35),  Babu (12),  Kesher Singh (16), Ramswaroop (40), Sohan (40) and Kamal (19) from Baheri in Bareilly. 

A case was registered and the police have launched a hnt for the dumper driver who fled after the accident. 

Expressing condolences to the departed, Yogi announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to their family members and Rs 50,000 for the treatment of  the injured. 

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat also expressed grief at the loss of lives and asked District Magistrate of Champawat, Ahmad Iqbal to ensure proper treatment to the injured.
