Man kills woman for rejecting his advances

A 31-year-old man reportedly murdered a 28-year-old married woman by ramming his car into the motorcycle she was riding pillion on for rejecting his advances near Gudiyatham on Saturday.

The woman’s husband, who was driving the two-wheeler, sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment.

According to police attached to Gudiyatham Taluk station, Manikandan, 31, and Sumathi, 28, were residents of Kottamitta. Mr. Manikandan was working in Bengaluru. Their relative, Vasantha Kumar, 31, who was staying in the same area, tried to have a relationship with Sumathi.

On coming to know about this, Mr. Manikandan decided to shift his family to Bengaluru. At 8 a.m. on Saturday morning, they vacated the house and were leaving on a two-wheeler. Vasantha Kumar rammed car into their motorcycle near Modikuppam. Sumathi sustained grievous injuries and died on the spot.

Mr. Manikandan was rushed to the Government Hospital at Gudiyatham with injuries and referred to a private hospital in Vellore.

Police arrested Vasantha Kumar on charges of murder and attempt to murder.
