Chelsea and Manchester United go head-to-head in today’s FA Cup final at Wembley.

Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho will be looking to get one over his former club, while counterpart Antonio Conte aims to go one better than last season when his side were beaten by Arsenal in the showpiece event.

Having delivered League Cup and Europa League success in his maiden season as United boss, Mourinho will now want to add the FA Cup to a second-place Premier League finish.

Chelsea XI: Courtois, Azpilicueta, Cahill, Rudiger, Moses, Kante, Fabregas, Bakayoko, Alonso, Hazard, Giroud.

Manchester United XI: De Gea, Valencia, Young, Smalling, Jones, Matic, Herrera, Pogba, Lingard, Sanchez, Rashford.

CHELSEA 1-0 MANCHESTER UNITED

64: Disallowed goal! Right, what’s happening here? Sanchez has the ball in the back of the net after Courtois parried Smalling’s flick-on to the Chilean, but he’s flagged for offside.

The decision goes to VAR, and the on-field decision remains the same. It’s completely correct and worked a treated. Quick and efficient.

61: A Chelsea clearance sits up kindly for Matic, but the Serbian drags his strike well wide. No repeat of his absolute thunderbolt in last year’s semi-final.

60: Valencia is shown a yellow card for a foul on Hazard, who ghosted past him with ease.

59: Alarm bells ringing for Chelsea! Herrera threads a beautiful pass over to Valencia, who cuts it back across the box but nobody is there to connect. Rashford is first to the loose ball and fizzes a bouncing effort that Courtois parries away.

Manchester United shifting through the gears and the Blues look rattled.

Chelsea vs Manchester United: Live FA Cup final score, news and updatesREUTERS

Chelsea vs Manchester United: Live FA Cup final score, news and updates

57: United looking the sharper of the two sides. Chelsea are dropping deeper and look happy to soak up the pressure and hit Jose Mourinho’s side on the counter.

Ashley Young collects a rare loose Chelsea clearance but swings a horrible cross/shot that Courtois watches fly over the bar.

55: Romelu Lukaku is stretching on the sidelines. I would described the stretch as ‘leisurely’ and don’t expect to see him for a little while. Standby folks…

In other news, Victor Moses is booked for dragging down Ashley Young. Can Marcus Rashford deliver a better free-kick? He does indeed but Thibaut Courtois punches clear.

53: What’s happening here. Eden Hazard goes down like a sack of potatoes after taking a flick in the face from Chris Smalling. Nothing really in it but a precious few minutes tick away.

50: Jose Mourinho is sticking to his tactics. Ander Herrera is still man-marking Eden Hazard with Marcus Rashford drifting from his centre-forward position. Chelsea will be quite pleased with everything being played in front of their defence.

47: The Prawn sandwich brigade have been slow getting back to their seats after their tasty buffet. Some of us are having to make do with a £3 meal deal, lads.

45: And we’re back underway folks.

Alan Shearer just had time to give his verdict on Manchester United’s first-half display.

“United have been hopeless. Until the last minute they didn't lay a glove on Chelsea. They have not asked any questions of Chelsea getting in behind at all,” he said.

STATS…

HT: I don’t really know what to make of these statistics. I guess passing hasn’t been the winner in the opening 45 minutes...

*No Chelsea player attempted more passes in the first-half than Thibaut Courtois (19 - level with Cesc Fabregas).

*Alexis Sanchez only attempted 11 passes in the first-half, the fewest of any Manchester United player including David De Gea (12).

TWITTER ROUND-UP

Jon: If anyone tells me that Paul Pogba is worth £100m again, I will give THAT person £100m!

Abdul: Marcus Rashford has not contributed anything. The weakest link I must say. His last touch says it all.

Kelvin: United played absolutely nothing this first half, just running around without game plan. Jose Mourinho had better come up with something. Quick.

Isham: Phil Jones should retire from International football before the World Cup to avoid embarrassment.

I would quite like to take you up on that offer, Jon. Shall I send you my sort code and account number?

CHELSEA 1-0 MANCHESTER UNITED

HT: Chelsea survive a late attack. Pogba strides into the penalty area before laying it off to Lingard, who spun & scuffed his shot into the ground. Quite fitting for United’s display really.

Jose Mourinho’s side have enjoyed 63% possession, but you wouldn’t really have guessed it. Chelsea deservedly hold a one-goal lead at the break.

45: Could this be a sucker-punch on the stroke of half-time? Moses fouls Sanchez on the left wing and United have themselves a good chance to deliver.

Terrible. Rashford strikes it straight into a two-man wall for a corner. Young sends a dangerous cross to the back post, but Jones heads wide under pressure.

43: Jose is furiously scribbling in that notebook of his. I imagine he’s making a “keep or sell” list based on the performances of some of his players today. I suspect one column is significantly longer than the other…

41: Marcos Alonso arrives late in the penalty area and his header is deflected wide for the first Chelsea corner of the afternoon. Fabregas delivers but De Gea punches it into orbit.

39: Far too quiet from Alexis Sanchez, Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford thus far. The trio haven’t been able to influence the game at all. Is half time too early to bring Romulu Lukaku, Juan Mata and Anthony Martial off the bench?

37: Danger! Sanchez clips Bakayoko just outside the box and Chelsea are given a free-kick. It looks like one for Willian, who is of course warming the bench. Fabregas takes it instead and the wall does its job.

35: And here are the official FA rules regarding that Phil Jones challenge and why Michael Oliver didn’t send him off. Don’t shoot the messenger!

"It is no longer an automatic red card if a player or goalkeeper brings down an opponent while acting as the last line of defence; where a genuine attempt has been made to play the ball, officials will be allowed to give a penalty and only book the offender."

33: It’s still just long shots from Manchester United as Alexis Sanchez tries his luck from distance. They haven’t really laid a glove on the Chelsea defence.

30: Pogba goes close for United, fizzing a strike just wide of the near-post. It wasn’t too threatening but the sun is blazing on Courtois’ goal and it’s quite difficult to see.

27: Oh my word. That’s without doubt one of the worst executions of a free-kick I’ve ever seen. Sanchez cheekily plays it short to Pogba, who scuffs it for a throw-in. Not too groovy…

25: Eden Hazard's penalty was the first scored in an FA Cup final since Ruud van Nistelrooy for Man Utd v Millwall in 2004 (excluding shootouts).

24: There’s a few people asking why Phil Jones was not sent off. I believe Michael Oliver is correct because of the double jeopardy law. The Manchester United defender WAS attempting to challenge Eden Hazard.

CHELSEA 1-0 MANCHESTER UNITED - HAZARD (PEN)

22: Easy as you like. Eden Hazard steps up and sends David de Gea the wrong way with a confident side-footed penalty into the bottom right.

So, so cool from the Belgian international. I do hope that’s NOT what we can expect at the World Cup next month!

PENALTY TO CHELSEA

20: Eden Hazard does well to get goal side of Phil Jones after a brilliant pass from Fabregas and the England defender simply can’t catch him. He throws a lazy leg at the ball and completely misses while taking Hazard down to the ground.

Antonio Conte wants him sent off as the last man, but Michael Oliver presents a yellow.

CHELSEA 0-0 MANCHESTER UNITED

19: This is all very safe from Jose Mourinho’s side. It’s just cautious passing around the back and the occasional dart forward from Sanchez. Not seen Rashford touch the ball yet.

16: Another update, another penalty appeal. Sanchez now hits the deck with a half-hearted fall inside the Chelsea penalty area as Moses tugs him back. Oliver waves play away.

13: Chelsea have been impressive in the early stages. Manchester United aren’t keeping the ball particularly well with the Blues capitalising on a few stray passes.

Penalty appeal! Bakayoko and Matic have a tangle of legs inside the penalty area. The Serbia midfielder did give him a little push on the way down but Michael Oliver isn’t interested.

10: That’s a well-worked free-kick from United. It’s played quickly to Young on the left but Cahill is in the middle to head clear.

Jones then inexplicably passes a ball out straight to Hazard, who makes himself a couple of yards in signature style before firing low at De Gea from an acute angle.

8: No sign of this cagey start abating. Giroud is trying to rough up Jones and Smalling whenever possible. His work-rate has been excellent since leaving Arsenal…

5: Jose looks fairly casual. He’s wearing a shirt but there’s no sign of a tie or blazer on the sidelines. Antonio Conte is suited and booted, as you would expect from the stylish Italian.

It’s been a fairly cautious start from both sides. Alexis Sanchez is drifting inside quite frequently looking for a few pockets of space. Herrera is man-marking Hazard again. It worked before, why wouldn’t it again!?

3: Oh, Martin Keown is doing the commentary today. That’s something for everyone to enjoy…

Herrera commits the first foul of the afternoon when dragging Alonso down on the left flank. Fabregas drifts it straight into the arms of De Gea.

1: And we’re off! The Red Devils get the 137th FA Cup final underway.

NATIONAL ANTHEM

17:12: Nerves! I’m not talking about the players, I’m talking about classical singer Emily Haig, who is having to nervously wait to be given the cue to start singing.

And she nails it, of course. Not too many among the 22 starting players joining in. Aside from Gary Cahill of course. He’s singing like his life depended on it!

HERE THEY COME…

17:10: Here they come! The players and managers have emerged from the tunnel to a wall of noise at Wembley. We’ve got the formalities of handshakes and the national anthem coming up next. All the more poignant after the Royal Wedding this morning of course…

BUTCH

17:08: Lovely touch here at Wembley as banners dedicated to Ray Wilkins are unfurled from both sets of supporters. The traditional anthem of ‘Abide with me’ is also being sung by the For All choir. A real sense of occasion building here. I love it!

TROPHY

17:05: The red carpet has been rolled out for Frank Lampard and Rio Ferdinand, who are on the pitch holding the FA Cup trophy up towards the supporters. We’ve also got Manchester United and Chelsea banners that completely cover each half of the pitch while flame-throwers shoot out fire. It’s all going on at Wembley…

TWITTER ROUND-UP

Naomi: Bakayoko starting with Pedro/Willian on the bench. I give up. I can feel my blood pressure rising and it's not even kick-off.

Michael: Conte riling up Chelsea fans one last time before he goes with his crazy selections. He must go.

Kevin: What does Bakayoko have to do to get dropped? What does Willian have to do to get a start? Conte's petulance beggars belief.

Blimey, the anger at Antonio Conte’s decision to start Tiemoue Bakayoko ahead of Pedro or Willian is everywhere! Can the French international prove overtone wrong?

THE FINAL COUNTDOWN…

17:02: Not long to go until showtime folks. Are you sitting comfortably? Wembley is filling up nicely and even some of the Prawn Sandwich Brigade have taken their seats!

TRIBUTES

17:00: There are likely to be tributes aplenty to Ray Wilkins today following the former Chelsea and United midfielder's death last month.

Wilkins was a much-loved figure within the game and represented both clubs during a stellar playing career before working on the backroom staff at Chelsea for some time.

United will be keen to lift the trophy as a mark of respect to former boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who is still recuperating after surgery on a brain haemorrhage a fortnight ago - while Chelsea will also want to toast former captain Roy Bentley, who died in April aged 93.

VAR!

16:55: Oh great. Ladies and gentlemen, we have VAR in use this afternoon. I’ll pause for a moment while you sigh at the prospect of mayhem and delays unfolding…

It’s the first time the technology will be used in the FA Cup final and it’s referee Michael Oliver who could call upon the video assistant referee, Neil Swarbrick, for help at some point.

Look forward to that working without a hitch…

MOURINHO IRKED?

16:53: Now I don’t want to go fishing for drama, but I sense Jose Mourinho isn’t happy with Romelu Lukaku.

See what you think from this snippet.

“Yeah. He made the decision he was not ready to start, maybe ready to give us a little help. It is one thing to be in the match, to play for 90 minutes and another thing to play a few minutes. He told us he is ready for that,” Mourinho said.

I suppose there’s a World Cup on the horizon…

ANTONIO CONTE…

16:48: Chelsea manager Antonio Conte: "We have worked very hard to prepare for this game and for sure the final result in the last game was not positive, but we have to play in a better way if we want to win the final.

"This is the same team we played against Liverpool two weeks ago and I think it is the best formation for us today."

TWITTER ROUND-UP

Sho: Can't believe Eric Bailly isn't starting. Can only assume it's injury because he's our best defender by miles. Also a massive game for Marcus Rashford, he's been given a massive opportunity and has to turn up.

Joe: No Willian?! Both teams will pack the midfield it seems. Cue absolute snooze fest, which Jose finds rather "entertaining" apparently! Please, PLEASE give us attacking football!

Florin: Dear Chelsea I don’t want Alexis Sanchez (the snake), Jose Mourinho or the other side of Manchester to win another trophy today. So please win it and let it remain in London.

LOST PROPERTY

16:45: God, do you remember the days of lost property at school? Fishing around for some ill-fitting plimsoles because you forgot to pack your trainers. Just me?

Moving swiftly on, Cesc Fabregas is eager to win today’s FA Cup final and replace the winners' medal he has lost.

The Spaniard cannot locate the medal from the 2005 final. His father used to store his medals for him but the 2005 FA Cup medal cannot be found. The 2010 World Cup winners' medal was discovered, after initially being mislaid.

Fabregas said: "My dad used to keep them and once I grew up, one day I said, 'Listen, where are all my medals and stuff?'

"He nearly lost the World Cup one even. It was in my mum's house in a box. I have nearly all of them but I've lost two or three. This FA Cup one, I cannot find it."

‘YOU THINK 6-0 IS ENTERTAINING?’

16:40: Well that’s what a simple bloke like me would think, but clearly tactical genius Jose Mourinho doesn’t agree.

Here’s what he’s said about the prospect of us witnessing an entertaining game at Wembley.

“I still don’t understand these words entertainment. You think 6-0 is entertaining? I don’t think so. I think entertaining is emotion until the end; is open result until the end; is everybody on their seats until the end, both dugouts nervous and tense with the unpredictability of the result.

“That for me as a football lover, that’s entertaining so I think it’s going to be entertaining.”

TWITTER ROUND-UP

Paddy: Luke Shaw not in the Manchester United squad for the FA Cup final. Jose Mourinho will still find a way to blame him if they lose.

Victor: Wow, Romelu Lukaku not fit enough, good for Marcus Rashford though finally got a huge chance to prove himself on the biggest stage, I feel like Lukaku might have given us a bit more creativity up front, were he to be match fit.

Phil: Today is all about winning. United supporters are not buying into this talk of boring football, they just want to win trophies.

Some entertainment would be nice though, Phil!

TEAM NEWS - CHELSEA

16:30: Can we call this a cautious approach from Antonio Conte? I think we probably can.

The Italian tactician opts for a 3-5-2 with Olivier Giroud and Eden Hazard starting in attack. Alvaro Morata will have to make an impact from the bench - as he did in the semi-final against Southampton.

As expected, Thibaut Courtois makes his first FA Cup appearance of the season. He replaces poor Willy Caballero, who might be called upon if a penalty shootout presents itself.

N’Golo Kante, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Cesc Fabregas pack the midfield.

TEAM NEWS - MANCHESTER UNITED

16:25: The headline news is that Romelu Lukaku isn’t fit enough to start. He’s on the bench with young Marcus Rashford chosen to lead the line.

He’s flanked by Alexis Sanchez, Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba, who is playing in a more advanced role with Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera anchored in midfield.

Juan Mata, Anthony Martial and Lukaku are named among the substitutes.

16:20: And here are your line-ups folks! Jose Mourinho has opted for Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford and Alexis Sanchez in attack. Romelu Lukaku is only fit enough for the bench. Thibaut Courtois starts for Chelsea. Poor old Willy…

Chelsea XI: Courtois, Azpilicueta, Cahill, Rudiger, Moses, Kante, Fabregas, Bakayoko, Alonso, Hazard, Giroud.

Subs: Caballero, Zappacosta, Chalobah, Barkley, Pedro, Willian, Morata.

Manchester United XI: De Gea, Valencia, Young, Smalling, Jones, Matic, Herrera, Pogba, Lingard, Sanchez, Rashford.

Subs: Romero, Bailly, Darmian, Mata, McTominay, Lukaku, Martial.

ARRIVAL

16:15: I’ve embedded a video of the Manchester United players arriving above folks. It’s not going to win an Oscar, but I just wanted to keep you in the loop. And I might have needed filler. Don't judge me!

REPEAT…

16:13: This is the third time Chelsea and Manchester United have met in the FA Cup final, making it the joint-most played final in the history of the competition (Arsenal vs Liverpool, Arsenal vs Newcastle and Aston Villa vs West Brom also three).

Just dropping some pub ammunition for you while we await the official team news and line-ups.

NO BEEF…

16:10: Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho says the sometimes bitter feud between himself and Chelsea counterpart Antonio Conte has ended.

Boooooooooo!

The duo have been involved in a war of words since the 2016-17 season, when Mourinho criticised Conte for celebrating wildly after Chelsea's 4-0 win over United, while the Italian accused his Portuguese rival of being obsessed with the Blues.

The feud continued into this season as Mourinho labelled the Italian's touchline manner as clown-like and alluded to a match-fixing allegation against the former Juventus boss, which he was cleared of in Italy.

Conte, in turn, described former Chelsea manager Mourinho as a "little man" and "a fake".

"It's okay. It's okay. He stretched out (to shake hands), I stretched out. We got bored," Mourinho told Portuguese news outlet Record. "After the game in Manchester, I invited him to come to my office. We talked. Nothing's wrong."

TOP MARKS!

16:05: Well done to Harry and Meghan for ditching the dinner and reception to watch the FA Cup final this afternoon. I knew the Queen would veto their plea for a 52” plasma.

Lee: Now all this Royal Wedding stuff is over, it's almost time for the main event. The FA Cup final!

Antony: I had a ticket to today's final but had to give it up because my fiancée is in labour. Looking forward to the birth of a future United legend, and hoping for a United win to make the day even better!

Victor: It all comes down this really, a win would change a solid season into a great one, a loss would downgrade it to an underwhelming one, while it's true second place is a good result, it's just the manner in which city won the title which takes away the achievement of it.

Should you be Tweeting, Antony? Get back to that delivery room!

MOUR SILVERWARE?

16:00: Having delivered League Cup & Europa League success in his maiden season as United boss, Mourinho will now want to add the FA Cup to a second-place Premier League finish.

The Portuguese has 11 honours to his name during his time in England, including two stints as Chelsea manager, and success on Saturday will see him lift a second FA Cup.

It will also help silence some of the criticism of the playing style adopted by Mourinho at Old Trafford as the club target a record-equalling 13th FA Cup success.

SNAPS…

15:55: Obviously I had to include the obligatory “fans cheer in front of the Wembley arch photo” in today’s blog at some point. Wouldn’t be the FA Cup if I didn’t, right?

Thumbs up for the double thumbs up!

ARRIVEDERCI ANTONIO?

15:50: What’s that? Dropping some GCSE Italian into proceedings? I’m glad those two years of lessons came in handy.

Antonio Conte's position as Chelsea boss has been a constant source of speculation for months, with the Italian cutting an increasingly unhappy figure at Stamford Bridge.

Having delivered the Premier League title in his first campaign at the helm, the 48-year-old was initially unhappy with the summer recruitment drive in west London.

Add to that poor results on the pitch, which led to finishing fifth in the table, and all pointers suggest the former Juventus midfielder will bow out at the end of the season.

But winning the FA Cup would be a good way to go…

I trust you were all glued to the Royal Wedding this morning. I don’t usually embrace these occasions but I couldn’t help but enjoy.

In fact, I think it’s knocked all the cynicism out of me!

Anyway, you’re not here to listen to me bleat on about Harry and Meghan, you want to know about the slightly less harmonious relationship between Chelsea and Manchester United.

Jose Mourinho has been successful in 12 of the 14 finals he has contested as a manager, in contrast to his opposite number, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte, who has won none.

Should be an entertaining match between two free-flowing sides… Oh look, I found some cynicism. Plenty left in the tank!

Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois could play in the FA Cup for the first time this season.

Willy Caballero has featured in the competition this term, but did not convince when deputising when Courtois missed the Premier League draw with Huddersfield with a back injury.

Full-back Emerson Palmieri (undisclosed) has joined defenders David Luiz (knee) and Ethan Ampadu (ankle) in being ruled out injured.

Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku needs a late fitness test ahead of today’s showdown.

The Belgium international faces a race against time to recover from an ankle injury in order to line up against his former club.

Winger Anthony Martial is fit after shaking off a knee problem.
