The DeKalb County History Center announced that they received a Community Needs grant from the DeKalb County Community Foundation.
The $75,000 grant will go toward a new building that will house the former Sycamore History Museum, the Joiner History Room and serve all county historical organizations. That comes after the Sycamore City Council approved during their May 7 meeting $14,500 to remove the barn and concrete silo and feedlot on the Engh Farm property, 1730 North Main St., where the new history center building will go.
The DeKalb County History Center is planning to open their new facility in May 2019. The goal is to have it coincide with the grand opening of the traveling Smithsonian exhibit, “Crossroads: Change in Rural America,” according to a news release.
The history center was one of 20 grant proposals approved by the DeKalb County Community Foundation.
