Sulfuric Acid Spill Reported At Broken Arrow Business

BROKEN ARROW, Oklahoma -

Firefighters and hazmat teams are on the scene of a chemical spill near 61st and Aspen in Broken Arrow.

It all started just before 7:30 Friday morning when firefighters say a beaker of sulfuric acid spilled from a hot plate inside the Element Materials plant.

Nine employees were inside at the time and they all got out safely.

Broken Arrow firefighters called in Tulsa's hazmat crew who say the acid had already evaporated.

Streets near the building were blocked off and some employees at nearby offices had to wait before getting the all clear to report to work.

Reporter Joseph Holloway: “Is this something you've seen over here before?”

“No, never, and I’ve been working here for about 30 years," said Sheryl Myerly who works nearby.

Crews are still working to ventilate the building.
