Former civil rights campaigner Shami Chakrabarti is to be given access to state secrets when she is made a Privy Counsellor in the next few weeks, The Telegraph can disclose.
The appointment will complete a move into the Establishment for Baroness Chakrabarti, who was the scourge of the Government when she was director of Liberty.
As a member of the Privy Council, Lady Chakrabarti will be allowed to style herself “right honourable”, and be given briefings on areas of national security.
As part of the ceremony, Lady Chakrabarti will have to take an oath of allegiance to the Monarch.
