Left for dead: Woman fighting for life after Villawood hit-and-run
A young woman is fighting for life after being hit by a truck which a witness said was running a red light in Villawood on Thursday night.
The truck then failed to stop after the collision.
Initial investigations by police suggest the woman was crossing at the lights and had a green signal.
The 20-year-old woman was crossing Woodville Road at the intersection of Tangerine Street in Villawood about 9.35pm on Thursday when she was hit by the truck.
She was rushed to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition with serious head and leg injuries.
Nine News reported the woman had a fractured skull, a bleed on the brain and multiple leg fractures.
A witness told Nine News the truck overtook two cars to run a red light before ploughing into the woman.
The truck, which was travelling north along Woodville Road, failed to stop.
Police are hunting for the driver who remains on the run.
The vehicle has been described as a small black truck with a cage on the back.
Police have not released footage of the truck or its registration number.
The northbound lanes of Woodville Road were closed at the intersection with Tangerine Street while the crime scene was examined.
Any witnesses or anyone with information on the truck involved are urged to contact police immediately.
