Plea to relocate Race Course bus stop

Commuters boarding buses headed towards Little Mount at the Race Course bus stop want the facility to be relocated as it is central to the problem of congestion on this section.

Buses 5A (East Tambaram - T. Nagar), V51 (West Tambaram - Saidapet), M14 (Saidapet - Medavakkam Koot Road), A51 (East Tambaram - Broadway) and B51 ( East Tambaram - T. Nagar) ply through the stretch.

Near the bus stop, petty shops are in operation. Customers visiting these shops park their vehicles near the bus stop; at times, even autorickshaws are parked.

As a result, some MTC bus drivers halt their vehicles a few metres before the bus stop.

S. Siva, a commuter, says, “On the rare occasions when autorickshaws and two-wheelers are not parked there, motorists from Chakrapani Street and Five Furlong Road pass through the bus stop at breakneck speed making use of the available space.”

Commuters say an alternative halting point for MTC buses can be created near the parking lot for train commuters. One of the officials of Greater Chennai Corporation said steps would be taken to solve the issue in coordination with the Chennai Traffic Police.
