Porsche Macan, Cayenne Recalled in Europe for Diesel-Related Issues
Porsche‘s link to Volkswagen‘s massive diesel scandal is still ongoing.
The German automaker is recalling 52,831 Macan crossovers and 6,755 Cayenne SUVs in Europe for having software that could reduce emissions controls for smog-inducing nitrogen oxides. It’s also known as a defeat device, which Volkswagen admitted to using on its diesel vehicles. Germany’s auto industry regulator, the KBA, found the defeat device on the affected vehicles, with the German transport ministry releasing a statement on Friday.
The affected Macan vehicles are equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine, while the Cayennes are powered by a 4.2-liter V8 diesel engine. Porsche uses diesel engines supplied by Audi, and had informed regulators earlier in February about “irregularities” found in emissions tests.
It’s currently unclear if any affected vehicles will be recalled in North America.
