DAYTONA BEACH — A Daytona Beach man was convicted Thursday of first-degree murder for shooting and killing a man outside a convenience store, prosecutors said.
Ricky Kelly, 34, shot Bobby E. Willis III three times during a gunfight in which police said 21 shots were fired.
Kelly faces up to life in prison when he is sentenced June 20 by Circuit Judge Leah Case. Kelly is also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm but that charge was not part of the three-day trial.
The 30-year-old Willis, who held a concealed weapons license, was shot once in the chest and twice in the leg in the parking lot of the Friendly Mart on Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard. He died at the scene, investigators said. Kelly was shot twice, once in the abdomen and once in the penis. He was arrested after undergoing surgery.
The men had argued the day before the fatal gunfight.
Kelly remained held without bail at the Volusia County Branch Jail.
