Market Update: Colgate, ITC lead CNX FMCG outperformance; ICICI Bank down 2%; HUL hits new 52-week high

110 stocks hit a new 52-week low. These include ABB, ACC, Amtek Auto, Bank of Baroda, Bharti Airtel, Ceat, PTC India, Strides Shasun and Vakrangee, among others.

The market continued to trade on a negative note on Friday afternoon, with the Nifty trading 47 points down at 10,635 and the Sensex trading 169 points lower at 34,979.

The Midcap index was down more than a percent, weighed down by stocks like Strides Shasun, TVS Motor Company, Just Dial, Power Finance Corporation, Voltas, Jain Irrigation Systems, CG Power and JP Associates, among others.

FMCG stocks outperformed the broader indices led by Colgate Palmolive which jumped 2 percent followed by Hindustan Unilever, ITC, Jubilant Foodworks and Proctor & Gamble among others.

CNX realty was also trading weak led by Godrej Properties which shed over 2 percent while DLF was down 1 percent. Sobha was the other loser which also shed  over 1 percent in the afternoon trade.

The Bank Nifty was lower by half a percent, as stocks like ICICI Bank shed over 2 percent and HDFC Bank was down 0.5 percent. Bank of Baroda and State Bank of India were the other losers.

Pharma stocks also traded in the red as stocks like Sun Pharmaceutical Industries was down 2 percent while Cipla, Gelnmark Pharma and Aurobindo Pharma were the other losers.

Metal stocks were down as Jindal Steel & Power, Steel Authority of India, NALCO, JSW Steel and Tata Steel were trading in the red.

Among auto stocks, Tata Motors was down 2.5 percent, while TVS Motor was lower by close to 4 percent. Maruti Suzuki was the other loser which shed ovver 1 percent in the afternoon trade.

The top Nifty gainers were Bajaj Finance, Tech Mahindra and Bajaj Auto, which jumped two percent each, followed by Hindustan Unilever and ITC.

The most actively traded stocks on the NSE were Bajaj Finance, up over 3 percent, and Reliance Communications. Voltas, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries and Bharti Airtel were the other actively traded stocks.

One of the top gainers on BSE was Reliance Communications, while Time Technoplast, Reliance Naval and Engineering, Videocon Industries and Intellect Design were the other gainers.

The top losers on BSE were SRF, which fell 8 percent, and Parag Milk, which fell 6 percent. Tata Steel and Adani Transmission were the other big losers.

Bajaj Finance, Britannia Industries, Colgate Palmolive, Hindustan Unilever and Mphasis were some of the stocks that hit fresh 52-week highs in afternoon trade.

On the other hand, 110 stocks hit a new 52-week low. These include ABB, ACC, Amtek Auto, Bank of Baroda, Bharti Airtel, Ceat, PTC India, Strides Shasun and Vakrangee, among others.

The breadth of the market favoured declines, with 650 stocks advancing, 1007 declining and 387 remaining unchanged. On BSE, 933 stocks advanced, 1415 declined and 124 remained unchanged.
