Many area athletes advanced to regional competition as the high school track and field postseason kicked into gear in earnest at the East/Southeast Division I District Championship at Don Drumm Stadium at Marietta College on Thursday.
Dover and New Philadelphia tied for the girls team title with 104.5 points apiece. Athens placed third at 97.5, while Carrollton -- in its first year in Division I competition -- was fourth at 92.5.
New Philadelphia's boys outscored Dover 158-95 for the crown.
Carrollton's Micah Donley claimed four titles, winning the 200- and 400-meter dash, as well as running on the 400 and 800 relay teams. The Warriors relay teams set meet records, and the 400 unit broke the school mark by a second.
Dover swept the 3,200 relays as Emerson Rainsburg, Erin Smith, Ella Neading and Raya Harrison won the girls portion with a 9:56.81, and Trent Nixon, Ethan Rainsburg, Vincent Giumenti and Ryan Hostetler won for the boys in 8:26.39.
Emerson Rainsburg finished second in the 3,200 in 12:02.01, while Maddie Cercone was third in 12:07.03.
New Philadelphia's Rebekah Stoneman, Carly Pry, Sarah Stoneman and Rachel Anderson were fourth in the girls 3,200 relay at 10:14.41.
The top four placers in each event qualified to the regional at Pickerington North next week.
Dover won the 1,600 relay in 4:09.31 with Jordyn Kiser, Meredith Lehman, Harrison and Whitney Ward. New Philadelphia's Kaylee Ress, Anderson, Kiera Sexton and Josie Pry teamed to finish second in 4:10.85. Carrollton placed fourth in 4:15.85 with Cindy Lewis, Jillian Rinkes, Kody Schandel and Grace Bartlow.
Josie Pry of the Quakers won the 100 hurdles in 15.49, and Carrollton's Layna Pasiuk placed fourth in 16.78.
Pry also won the girls 300 hurdles in 47.10, while Dover's Jordyn Kiser was third at 49.13 and Tornado teammate Whitney Ward was fourth at 49.31.
Quaker Kate McEwan was third in the girls pole vault at 9-6.
New Philadelphia's L.J. Lowery won the boys 400 in 49.75 and Quaker teammate Caden Richmond was third at 51.73. Lowery also won the 200 in 22.74 and Jelani Walker was third with a 23.37.
New Philadelphia's Storm Elsesser won the boys high jump with a 6-2 and Quaker teammate Latterian Cunningham was second at 5-10.
Elsesser claimed the 300 hurdles in 41.46 and Quaker teammate Jacob Finnicum was fourth at 43.49.
New Philadelphia's Walker claimed the boys 100 in 11.35, and Dover's Andrew McVicker was second at 11.38.
Walker led the boys 400 relay to the title with a time of 45.16. Tyler Ripley, Roman McInturf and Sam Zemis followed, while Dover's Nick Newland, Oshea Williams, Scott Cecil and Andrew McVicker placed second at 45.20.
New Philadelphia boys won the 1,600 relay in 3:28.20 with Nick Schaffner, Elsesser, Richmond and Lowery. Dover finished second in 3:29.10 with Trent Nixon, Garrett Newsome, Scott Cecil and Vincent Giumenti.
Zemis won the boys long jump crown with a leap of 20-11.5, and Williams was third at 19-7.
Anderson was district runner-up in the girls 1,600 with a 5:21.34, while Smith was third at 5:25.59 and Stoneman was fourth at 5:32.88.
Aidan Harr placed fourth in the 3,200 for the Quakers in 10:05.12.
New Philadelphia's Angie Wallick was third in the girls 100 at 13.06 and Dover's Kamry Folkert was fourth at 13.21, while Quaker Kristian Kneffler was third in the boys pole vault at 13-0.
Dover's Kyler Dickey claimed the boys district discus title with a heave of 133-3. He placed third in the shot with a throw of 49-1.
The Tornadoes boys 800 relay of Cecil, Garrett Newsome, Williams and Bruno Frank finished third at 1:35.51.
Dover's Ben Hooper placed second in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.86, and Frank was third in 16.37.
Giumenti was second in the 800 with a 1:59.37 and New Philadelphia's Nick Schaffner was fourth with a 2:05.52.
Harrison won the girls 800 in a record time of 2:20.36, while Anderson was second with a 2:21.62 and Dover's Ella Neading was fourth with a 2:26.50.
Carrollton's Alivia Bentley won the girls shot put title with a meet record toss of 44-6.5. Bentley also captured the discus title with a throw of 137-7.
The 800 relay won the title with a meet record of 1:44.6 by Bri Burkhart, Jillian Rinkes, Cindy Lewis and Donley, while Dover's foursome of Ward, Katie Edie, Kiser and Willow Cox were fourth at 1:50.06.
The same Carrollton crew won the 400 relay in meet record time of 49.69, which broke the school mark by a second, while the Dover foursome of Toni Denmark, Katie Edie, Grace Smith and Folkert were fourth at 53.03.
Donley cruised to a district title in the 400 with a 58.52. She then won the 200 in 25.54 with Wallick third at 27.00.
Jaci Pridemore won the girls high jump in 5-1 and Dover's Denmark was fourth at 4-8 as she won a jump-off with Carrollton's Mac Tubaugh.
WEST HOLMES DIVISION II
The Divison II district meet began at West Holmes, but results of the event were unavailable at press time.
The top four qualifiers in each event advanced to the regional at Muskingum University next week.
The meet will conclude on Saturday.
SALEM DIVISION II
Kennady Gibbins won the high jump with a leap of 5-4 as Fairless is competing in the Division II district at Salem.
It's the third district title in four years for the Mount Union recruit.
Sophie Wentling, Kinsley Anstine, Erycka Byer and Alex Kirby finished fourth in the 3,200 relay with a 10:02.
The top four qualifiers in each event advanced to the regional at Austintown-Fitch next week.
On Wednesday, Byer won the girls pole vault title with an 8-6 showing at Northwest High School.
Gavin Alexander and Brady Wickham also advanced to the regional meet with third- (11-8) and fourth-place (10-8) finishes, respectively.
The meet will conclude Saturday.
DISTRICT SOFTBALL
RIVER VIEW 1, ST. CLAIRSVILLE 0
Claire Warschauer's two-out solo home run to left field in the fourth inning was the difference in the game. Winning pitcher Alyssa Thomas scattered seven hits in a complete-game effort as No. 1 seed River View edged No. 2 St. Clairsville (20-4) for the Division II district championship at Cambridge.
Hebron Lakewood and Granville will play at 1 p.m. Saturday for the Central District crown. The winner will advance to face the Black Bears (28-3) in a regional semifinal at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pickerington Central.
